Mount Annan Painters for Growing Camden Estates

Minimalist illustration representing interior painting.

Painting in Mount Annan, from dairy paddocks to established estates

Mount Annan takes its name from a hill that Magistrate William Howe named after Annan, his hometown in Scotland. He was granted 3,000 acres here in 1818, a dairy farm ran on the land until 1978, and housing was released from the late 1980s. The Australian Botanic Garden opened in October 1988, and the suburb has grown a great deal since. WM Painting & Decorating is licensed and insured, with over 10 years of painting and decorating experience, and we price Mount Annan jobs for houses that are now 20 to 35 years old as well as for newer builds.

This page covers first-repaint timing for early estates, open paddock exposure, Camden Council’s colour guide, growth around the suburb and strata or townhouse work. To book, call 0434 432 267 or use the contact page.

Thirty-year-old estates and the second coat of life

Land was released for housing here in the late 1980s, and the suburb has grown greatly since the 1990s, with developers releasing estates aimed at different markets. The Dictionary of Sydney entry for Mount Annan records that history. For homeowners, it means a lot of houses are now 20 to 35 years old and due for a proper repaint.

On those homes, the places that fail first are usually eaves, fascias, window frames, garage doors and any painted timber on the sunny side. Builder-grade paint from the original build has often chalked, and sometimes peeled. We wash, sand glossy or chalky areas, spot prime, fill and then recoat. Interiors of busy family homes get scuffed walls, kitchen splashes and marked ceilings, and our interior painting page explains how we protect floors and furniture.

Glenlee, the dairy and exposure on open ground

The land that became Mount Annan belonged to William Howe’s Glenlee estate. Glenlee House was completed in 1824, James Fitzpatrick acquired the estate in the 1850s, and his descendants ran a dairy farm until 1978, according to the Botanic Gardens history page. Much of that open farmland is now suburb, and many streets have young street trees and little shelter.

Exposed streets mean a lot of sun on roofs and north and west walls, and wind that carries dust. UV breaks down paint over time, and dark colours fade faster. We choose products for sun exposure and talk through colour choices before you commit. Our roof painting and spraying page covers how we prepare a roof for a new coating.

Camden Council's colour guide and heritage items

Mount Annan itself is mostly newer housing, but Camden Council’s rules still apply to nearby heritage areas. The council’s Material and Colour Guide says that painting a heritage item, or a building in a heritage conservation area, needs development consent or a written exemption from council before work starts. Heritage items are listed in Schedule 5 of the Camden LEP 2010.

If you own a property in or near Camden town, check your lot against the LEP before choosing colours. For an ordinary estate home, no consent is usually needed to repaint, but some estates have design guidelines or covenants. If you are not sure, ask your developer or the council. Our colour consultation service helps you choose a scheme that suits the street.

The Australian Botanic Garden and bush-edge streets

The Australian Botanic Garden covers 419 hectares and opened on 2 October 1988 as the final NSW Bicentennial project. It welcomed nearly one million visitors in 2022. The Garden and the bushland edges of the suburb give many streets a green outlook, and also bring leaf litter, sap and birds to gutters, roofs and decks.

Gutters full of leaves hold water against fascias and eaves, which is where paint often fails. We clear and check them as part of the prep. Under trees, algae and mould build up on shaded walls and pavers, so we treat those before painting. For a roof under overhanging branches, regular cleaning matters as much as the coating.

Growth around Mount Annan: townhouses, strata and builder handovers

Several nearby suburbs have grown quickly, including Harrington Park, Currans Hill, Narellan Vale and Spring Farm. That mix includes townhouses, strata schemes and new builds as well as established houses.

Newer homes need different work. Builders often use basic finishes, and the first two to three years can show hairline cracks and scuffs that need repairing before repainting. For strata and townhouse complexes, we coordinate with the committee or manager, agree the colour scheme and stage the work around residents. Our commercial painting page covers shops and centres.

Mount Annan and the Macarthur region

We also work in Narellan, Campbelltown, Picton and Ingleburn, and Leppington to the north. See the full areas we serve list.

How We Work

Timing a Mount Annan repaint

Spring and autumn give the most settled weather for exterior painting in Camden’s inland climate. Summer sun can dry paint too fast on exposed walls, and cold winter mornings can slow curing. We check forecasts and surface moisture before each coat, and if you have a sale or tenancy date, we work back from it.

Mount Annan painting FAQ

Do I need approval to repaint a house in Mount Annan?

Usually not for an ordinary home, but heritage items and conservation areas need consent or a written exemption from Camden Council. Estate covenants may also apply.

How often should an estate home from the 1990s be repainted?

Eaves, fascias and sunny-side timber often need attention first, depending on how much sun and weather they get. We inspect and tell you what needs doing now and what can wait.

Why is the paint on my fascias peeling?

Usually sun, moisture or poor prep on the original coat. We sand, prime and recoat with products suited to the exposure.

Can you paint townhouses and strata complexes?

Yes. We work with committees and managers, agree colours and stage the work around residents. Call 0434 432 267 to discuss access.

Do you paint new homes after handover?

Yes. We repair marks, cracks and scuffs first and then repaint walls and trim to a finish that lasts.
